Acrylic, 11 x 14. Shells are fascinating to look at, by their shape, variety, and often iridescence. They are also imbued with meaning. They are associated with fertility and love and symbolize safe journey between the physical and spiritual worlds. Georgia O’Keefe’s subjects of shells are a favorite of mine, although often overlooked. Several examples can be viewed at the Chicago Museum of Art.
